Recycled materials

EPIC recycles constructional wastes in it's plant located in Kabad area in Kuwait.  These wastes consist of:

  1. Big concrete block like concrete bases, concrete beams, concrete columns and precast concrete.
  2. Medium size concrete blocks mixed with quantities of sand and cement/limestone bricks in a ratio of no more than 20% of the total volume of wastes.
  3. Small concrete blocks mixed with quantities of sand and cement\limestone bricks and wood, and other materials of no more than 50% of the total volume of wastes.
  4. Asphalt blocks resulting from removing old roads and sidewalks, which could contain medium size concrete blocks as the case of curbstone, cement tiles and sand.  Materials other than asphalt can be found between 5 – 50 % of the total volume of wastes.

Recycling process

Recycling begins in the wastes yard, in which wastes are piled in certain areas depending on its type as mentioned above.  After that unwanted materials are removed manually.  The next step is to reduce the sizes of big concrete blocks into smaller sized that can easily transported and dumped in crushers ( 700 mm at most for both concrete and asphalt ). But if the constructional wastes are small enough, it would be manually cleaned and prepared to be put into the cursher.

Big and medium concrete blocks can be broken down into smaller ones using a big rock breaker.  A pulverizer is used to remove steel rods from the concrete blocks.

Before crushing, wastes would be screened in order to remove sand and small granules ranging from 0 to 15 mm and any other unneeded materials to increase the quality of the products.
